Well, let the quarterback games begin in Florham Park, New Jersey.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick still unsigned and Bryce Petty still lingering as a project, Mike Maccagnan and the New York Jets made one gigantic statement with their second-round pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Penn State product Christian Hackenberg is now Jersey-bound after being selected 51st overall by Gang Green.

Hackenberg is a hot and cold prospect. He’s shown incredible potential during his three years in Happy Valley. He’s also shown incredible inconsistencies.

It’s very doubtful Hackenberg will be ready to start day one. While possible, it’s hard to image. This means the Jets now have two young QBs (Petty) who’ll be holding the clipboard.

What this means for Fitz and Geno Smith remains to be seen.
