Eight games left. That’s it. That’s all she wrote for the 2015-16 NHL regular season.

John Tavares and the New York Islanders have no room for error. No room for error, that is, if they want to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Thanks to a recent rough patch, the Isles went from the second spot in the Metropolitan Division all the way down to the No. 4 area. They’re now three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for that third seed, with a right to face the New York Rangers in the first round of the playoffs.

The good news is, the Isles still have a game in hand on the Pens and two games in hand on the Rangers.

The bad news is the Philadelphia Flyers are trailing the squad from Brooklyn by only two points. Between the Isles, Flyers and Detroit Red Wings, only two will sneak into the tournament.

Tonight the Islanders will look for their second straight victory over the Carolina Hurricanes as goaltender Thomas Greiss returns to action.
