A little less than three weeks ago, John Tavares and the New York Islanders were hotter than any NHL team. They shot up as high as second in the Metropolitan Division, officially catching the hated New York Rangers.

Today, after a highly disappointing 7-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Florida a night ago, the Isles are fighting for their playoff lives.

They remain in fourth place in the division and in the first Eastern Conference wild card spot. However, only two points separate them from the Philadelphia Flyers and falling out of the tournament.

Tonight they’ll take on the Hurricanes in Carolina. Puck drops at 7:30 PM ET.
