Despite his decrease in minutes on Wednesday, New York Knicks forward Kevin Knox is maintaining a positive attitude.
New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale only played Kevin Knox for 10 minutes against the Philadelphia 76ers. After riding the pine for the entire second half, the second-year pro is saying all the right things.
“I mean, yeah it was tough, but it was something that had to be done,” Knox said. “Fiz made his decision so I just made sure I was the best teammate on the bench. Make sure I was cheering my guys on, keeping my guys up. I didn’t want to sit at the end of the bench, sulk and cry and just have an attitude cause I wasn’t playing.
“So I have the right mindset going in, came in the next day and got my work in and watched film on what I need to do to get better at so when my opportunity comes next time I’ll be able to produce.”
This is a very mature statement from Knox. Throughout his Knicks career, the second-year lottery pick has maintained a steadiness off the court, even when he’s not playing to his potential on the court. Even during the rough patches in his career, Knox rarely tries to shift blame to someone else or make excuses.
The 20-year-old still has immense talent, although it’s clear that he is still a long way from being a finished product. Falling in and out of the rotation isn’t ideal for Knox’s overall development, but his response to his decrease in minutes shows a winning attitude.
