After undergoing surgery on Monday, Nikolay Kulemin will miss the remainder of the New York Islanders‘ regular season.
The New York Islanders announced on Twitter Monday that Nikolay Kulemin underwent successful surgery today, signaling the end of the forward’s season.
Kulemin was injured on a hit by Eric Gryba during the Islanders’ 2-1 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers last Wednesday and has not played since.
Through 13 games, Kulemin compiled a goal and three points while playing primarily on the Islanders’ fourth line.
While this undoubtedly will hurt the Islanders’ penalty kill going forward, the silver lining is that Alan Quine made his return to the Islanders’ lineup this past weekend, along with the emergency recall of Josh Ho-Sang.
With the injured Shane Prince looking to return soon as well, those three forwards will enter a situation similar to the back-end of the team’s defensive corps. The competition for playing time will intensify with few available roster spots to contend for.
