Whenever the Columbus Blue Jackets are in town, an old friend and Rangers legend, John Davidson, comes to visit.
With the New York Rangers honoring Rick Nash as they got set to face the Columbus Blue Jackets, they called on their former goaltender and television analyst, the beloved John Davidson, for some help.
Currently the president of hockey operations for the Blue Jackets, Davidson is no stranger to Madison Square Garden and the Rangers.
J.D. played eight seasons for the Rangers, from 1975-76 to 1982-83. In 222 games for the Blueshirts, Davidson went 93-90-25 with a 3.58 GAA. He was sensational in the 1978-79 playoffs, going 11-7 with a 2.28 GAA in 18 games.
Davidson was particularly impressive against the New York Islanders in the semifinals, going 4-2 with a 2.10 GAA and .913 save percentage, helping the Rangers to reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost in five games to Montreal.
After retiring in 1983, he served as the Rangers color analyst alongside Sam Rosen for 19 years. Davidson has been with Columbus since October 2012.
The Rangers know how to put together a pregame ceremony and whenever the Blue Jackets are involved, it seems like Davidson is always involved, why not.
