New York Rangers center Andrew Desjardins was suspended for an illegal check to the head of Devils Miles Wood.

Andrew Desjardins was on a professional tryout with the New York Rangers. He did not see much action — and now with this suspension, his “tryout” is likely over.

NHL Player Safety announced tonight that Desjardins was suspended for a hit to the head of New Jersey Devils forward Miles Wood. He received a match penalty in the first period of the game.

Alain Vigneault has stated earlier that a suspension would put the team in a tough spot.

Desjardins signed a contract with the Rangers to help them with the shortage at center. He was a long shot to make the team, and now with the excellent training camp that Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil are having, it looks like he will be one of the cuts in the near future.

You can check a player but you can also check himself right out the game. Sorry, Desjardins, you didn’t get away with this one.
