Former NHL defenseman Joe Mormina has joined the coaching staff of the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Tuesday morning, the New York Rangers announced on Twitter that they have hired Joe Mormina to serve as an assistant coach for the Hartford Wolf Pack.
He is the first addition to new Wolf Pack head coach Keith McCambridge’s staff. It’s safe to assume that he won’t be the last.
Mormina spent last season as an assistant coach at Mercyhurst University, where he was involved with the team’s defensemen and overall player development. Three of his blueliners averaged more than half-a-point per game.
Hartford has a number of young defensemen who could benefit from his tutelage, including Sean Day and Ryan Graves, though Graves is a sleeper to make the NHL roster in camp.
The 35-year-old spent 11 seasons playing professional hockey, mostly in the AHL. He did skate in one NHL game for the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2007-08 season, recording four hits and one shot on goal.
