The New York Knicks are reportedly expected to attend point guard Dennis Smith Jr.’s private workout on Thursday.

The New York Knicks will get a chance to see Dennis Smith Jr. work out after all. When the team hosted Smith privately last week, there was no workout. The reason behind that was “unclear.”

That’s all moot now because New York will be one of the teams at Smith’s pro day. Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders reports New York will be there along with the Timberwolves, Heat, Mavericks, Hornets, and Pistons.

Only the Timberwolves (No. 7) have a higher pick than the Knicks in the 2017 NBA Draft. They’re unlikely to go point guard with their pick.

It’s not surprising that the Mavericks will once again be in competition with the Knicks for a point guard. That seems to be the trend recently. First, it was Frank Ntilikina now it’s Dennis Smith Jr.

Smith is one of three guards of whom the Knicks reportedly have serious interest. The other two are Malik Monk and Ntilikina.

The Knicks reportedly have a workout scheduled with Monk for this week, but they’re waiting on Ntilikina. The international prospect is in the middle of a playoff run with his French club team.
