What would New York Islanders fans throw onto the Barclays Center ice? It depends.

Newsday’s Arthur Staple posed the following question to his followers on Twitter yesterday: “Trying to think what #Isles fans would throw on the ice as a tradition… Oysters? Artisanal Brooklyn cheese? A Rangers fan?”
While those suggestions were cute, it’s the comments that were downright hilarious. Here’s a sampling:
Vespoli is correct: there’s simply no way of throwing anything onto the ice when one can’t even see it. Maybe this will happen at Belmont Park.

In other news… the Tampa Bay Lightning will host the 2018 All Star Game, while the Capitals and Leafs will duel it out at the United States Naval Academy. “The Maple Leafs and Capitals will make their respective Coors Light NHL Stadium Series debuts in our inaugural outdoor game at a U.S. Service Academy,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “The energy and excitement will be extraordinary at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium when these teams resume the rivalry that reached new heights during their First Round playoff series this past April.
Bettman was adamant about the NHL not competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in his annual “state of the league” address. Bill Daly touched on Quebec’s bid for a team: “I think we have to address that imbalance before we can give more consideration to the Quebec City application,” he said in reference to there being 16 teams in the East and 15 teams in the West.
The first game of the Stanley Cup was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Despite not recording a single shot for 37 minutes (including the entire second period), the Penguins still managed to stave off a furious comeback attempt by the Predators en route to a 5-3 victory.
