Sometimes, you just have to dominate physically. Sometimes, you just have to forget about the puck and take your man out while simultaneously letting him know it’s not gonna happen — he’s not getting to the net on your watch and if he tries, he’s headed for the boards.
New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh is playing like the guy we’ve all been waiting for. During these 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 27-year-old St. Paul native isn’t just doing his thing offensive and defensive this spring, he’s physically dominated the opponent.
A perfect case in point came late in the second period of Game 2 against the Ottawa Senators.
With Senators captain Erik Karlsson driving hard to the net, McDonagh completely dominated him (video above). You know, the guy who’s captured two Norris Trophies (handed out to the league’s best defenseman), was taken out like a pee-wee player by No. 27.
Heading into the third period, New York leads 4-2. Ottawa leads the series 1-0.
