After road defeats, New York City FC will attempt to claim their first points on the road in Philadelphia against the Union.

New York City Football Club will seek their first away win of the season when they take on the Philadelphia Union this Friday at the Talen Energy Stadium. Both of New York City’s previous away matches against Orlando City and D.C United ended in respective 1-0 and 2-1 defeats.

Meanwhile, the Union will attempt to claim their first win of the season after their disappointing start to the season has seen them pick up just two points from their opening five matches. After two draws against the Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC, they fell to Orlando, D.C, and 2015 MLS champions Portland Timbers.

New York currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference standings while Philadelphia’s poor start to the season has placed them at the bottom, in 11th.

Both sides have claimed their share of victories in this fixture since NYC FC’s opening season in 2015. The Union defeated City in their first matchup that season before they drew the following match and fell in the third fixture, while each side won once in their two meetings last season.

Patrick Viera criticized what he described was a “passive approach,” from NYC FC in their 2-1 defeat to D.C United last weekend.

“We knew that they would be tough, physical, and put us under pressure…I’m a little disappointed because we didn’t answer that well,” he said.

However, Viera was pleased with NYC FC’s attacking performance in the final minutes of the match. “We created some good situations,” said Viera.

The match comes your way at 7 p.m. ET this Friday.
