With the New York Rangers taking on the Detroit Red Wings at The Joe on Sunday, one can’t help but think of Henrik Lundqvist’s struggles.

New York Rangers’ star goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist (19-12-1), is one victory away from becoming the first NHL goalie to win 20 or more games in every season since entering the league.

With one win, Lundqvist will surpass Hockey Hall of Fame members Tony Esposito and Martin Brodeur to become the only goalie in NHL history to have recorded 12 consecutive 20-win seasons, via NHL.

There’s a bitterness tainting that rarified air, though:

Henrik Lundqvist has never won a game at “The Joe.”

“It’s a tough building to play in, Joe Louis Arena, and we need to be ready right off the start there” -Rangers defenseman, Dan Girardi, via AP.

Everything in that brief statement is true. No one knows it better than Lundqvist, who owns a career record of 0-2-1 and a GAA of 3.94 at Joe Louis Arena.
