For the second year in a row, Forbes ranked the New York Rangers as the most valuable team in the NHL.

Forbes has just released their NHL team rankings for this season and, for the second consecutive year, the large-market New York Rangers lead the pack.

The Rangers are reportedly worth $1.25 billion. The club led the league in revenue ($219 million) and were second in operating income ($74.5 million). Their worth was over $200 million more than the second-most valuable team, the Montreal Canadiens.

Here are the top five most valuable teams, according to Forbes:

  1. New York Rangers – $1.25 billion
  2. Montreal Canadiens – $1.12 billion
  3. Toronto Maple Leafs – $1.1 billion
  4. Chicago Blackhawks – $925 million
  5. Boston Bruins – $800 million

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise to many that all of the top five teams are all in major cities with very large markets and stellar fanbases.

Fans of the New York Rangers certainly enjoy their team being the most valuable in the NHL, but the main thing they are looking for is the team bringing them their first Stanley Cup trophy in over 20 years.
