Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Brooklyn Nets forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who’s gotten off to a very slow start this season.

Four games, 2.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 21.1 percent shooting from the field–I can guarantee that is not how Rondae Hollis-Jefferson hoped to begin 2016-17.

After missing all but 29 games last year because of ankle surgery, the 21-year-old swingman was expected to have a year that built on a very promising rookie campaign.

Clearly, that hasn’t happened, and Hollis-Jefferson is aware of it.

Maybe he’s talking about something other than basketball, but the thesis is applicable in numerous ways.

RHJ is already a solid defender, but the rest of his game has yet to catch up to that level. He’s relatively inept on offense and has looked even more dreadful than his rookie year.

There is no reason for anyone to panic. Brooklyn is in the process of rebuilding, which gives Hollis-Jefferson an excellent environment to develop in. Not much is on the line, so he doesn’t have to worry about much.

Moreover, there are multiple guys he can learn from to better himself.

As Sam Hinkie would say, trust the process.
