With the Islanders in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden, former Isles forward Michael Grabner opens the scoring for the New York Rangers.

With the hated New York Islanders in town, a familiar Long Island face did damage against his former team.

Michael Grabner, who now plays on Broadway, scored the first goal of the season for the New York Rangers. It came during the later stages of the first period and occurred on a 3-on-2 rush with defenseman Marc Staal joining the fray (video above).

Brandon Pirri and Jesper Fast picked up the assist on the goal that saw the Isles first line consisting of John Tavares, Andrew Ladd and Jason Chimera on the other end of the ice chasing the play down.

The score remains 1-0 in favor of the darker shade of blue while we wait for the first intermission to come to its conclusion.

The Rangers have tallied 13 shots on goal while the Isles 10.
