NYCFC face a familiar situation Thursday night — the possibility of a game without midfielder Frank Lampard.

When New York City FC takes on Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield leading D.C. United Thursday night at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, they could be without a familiar face. Then again, being without that “familiar face” is a familiar situation.

According to Glenn Crooks, NYCFC midfielder Frank Lampard will reportedly be a game-time decision for the Blues in a big, playoff-implicating mid-week match against D.C. United (7 p.m. ET, YES).

Lampard left training early on Wednesday with what’s being called a quad injury.

His NYCFC career has gotten off to a rocky start since he (finally) arrived to New York City as the club’s second designated player in June. He missed what was supposed to be his July 12th debut against Toronto FC with a calf strain suffered that week in training and missed the following two games after.

Lampard’s debut, once it finally happened against the Montreal Impact on August 1st, was mediocre at best and his first start in last Sunday’s 2-0 loss against the Red Bulls was incredibly disappointing.

NYCFC enters Thursday night’s match coming off of back-to-back losses, recording just one win in their last five matches. D.C., on the other hand, enters the match on a three-match win streak.
