Although New York Rangers winger Martin St. Louis couldn’t even skate anymore, they’ll surely miss leadership like he displayed here.

The best possible scenario for both parties went down on Thursday.

Future Hall of Fame hockey player who amassed 1,033 career points, Martin St. Louis, officially retired from the NHL after 18-glorious seasons. Meanwhile, the New York Rangers freed up close to $6 million in salary cap space.

For New York, the salary would have been resolved in any event (as St. Louis was a free agent). For St. Louis, on the other hand, retiring now means he won’t have to play elsewhere.

I’m sure once those few teams who had initial interest told St. Louis the minimal salary they’d be offering, he changed his decision on playing another brutal NHL season.

In any event, and despite the fact St. Louis was by far the worst Rangers player during the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, they’ll surely miss his leadership.

As you can tell in the above video, the man was absolutely revered by his much younger teammates.

Enjoy your post-playing career Marty.
