New York Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar officially sees his 2019 season cut short now that he’ll undergo season-ending surgery.

Miguel Andujar’s 2019 season is officially over.

Struggling with a partially torn right-shoulder labrum, Andujar faced a serious question. Should he opt for season-ending surgery or play through the pain?

On Wednesday, it became official that surgery will be the official course of action for the New York Yankees young third baseman.

Andujar will undergo season-ending surgery on Monday with doctor Christopher Ahmad, the team’s physician. It will happen at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Andujar, 24, entered his sophomore campaign with a lot to prove. Smashing 27 home runs to go along with 92 runs batted in and a crisp .292 batting average stunned the baseball world a year ago. Twenty-nineteen was supposed to be his “prove it” campaign.

When Andujar was first diagnosed on March 31, doctors thought he could hold off on the surgery and still swing the bat. After a porous showing in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and a cup of coffee at the big-boy level, the situation needed to be reassessed.

Andujar’s 2019 season finishes with a stat line of no homers, one run batted in and a .128 batting average in just 49 plate appearances.

The surprising Gio Urshela will continue to man down the fort at third base for the New York Yankees.
