As per an official team release, Brian Cashman swung a deal on Saturday that brings Colorado Rockies outfielder Mike Tauchman to the Bronx. He was acquired for left-handed pitcher Phillip Diehl and found a spot on the 40-man roster due to Jordan Montgomery‘s 60-day IL stint.
Tauchman, 28, isn’t a seasoned big leaguer. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound outfielder bats and throws left, and his 69 career plate appearances have come within the last two seasons.
It gets interesting when discussing the kid’s minor league output.
In 2018 with AAA-Albuquerque, Tauchman slashed .323/.408/.571 with a tremendous 12.7% BB/14.9% K plate-discipline profile. He also smashed 20 home runs to go along with 81 runs batted in.
The player relented, Diehl, 24, is a lefty bullpen arm who also sports solid minor league production. His 3.14 ERA and 79 strikeouts over 48.2 innings pitched with single-A Tampa a season ago opened many eyes.
