Still holding out hope for Nolan Arenado on the New York Yankees? The Colorado Rockies are about to break the Yankees’ hearts.
No Manny Machado? Not a problem for the New York Yankees! Their convincing move this offseason was to wait for Nolan Arenado during the next free agency period.
And just like an Aaron Judge home run, that one is gone!
The Colorado Rockies and Arenado don’t have anything official yet but are working on a significant extension with a no-trade clause for the coveted third baseman, as announced Tuesday morning.
The current extension looks to be an eight-year, $260 million deal, as confirmed by the New York Post. For a player of this caliber, it is a perfect deal for the Rockies.
For the Yankees? Not so much.
Word on the street was the Yankees were waiting until next season to snag Arenado but it looks like they’ll be without any big names manning the hot corner and have to do it all on their own. Oh, the horror!
Arenado has been highly impressive in his time in Colorado and he’s put together an incredible highlight reel defensively over the years. Not only that, but he’s posted unheard of numbers over his first six seasons in the league.
This is the guy the Yankees would’ve liked at their hot corner but instead, they are stuck with Miguel Andujar, the runner-up for AL Rookie of the Year in 2018. Poor, poor Yankees.
The Yankees played the safe game this offseason, making their real target known, and it ultimately backfired on them. I guess the times have changed just a little bit. The Yankees aren’t the only team that can bring players a ring anymore.
Arenado would be a perfect fit for the Bombers but for now, he’s going to be hanging around in Colorado. Hear that sound? That is the sound of multiple hearts breaking in the city of New York.
