According to Frank Isola of The New York Daily News, the New York Knicks plan to reach out to Villanova head coach Jay Wright about their recently vacated head coaching position.

The New York Knicks intend to reach out to Villanova head coach Jay Wright about their head coaching vacancy. Frank Isola of The New York Daily News reports that management believes Wright is the “perfect candidate” for the job.

After winning his second championship in three seasons with the Wildcats, Wright has become one of the hottest coaching candidates in recent memory. But as recently as last week, he told Dana O’Neil of The Athletic that he wasn’t interested in leaving Villanova for the NBA.

Coaches say a lot of things that seem like denials, especially college coaches, and Wright didn’t technically mention the Knicks by name. He also didn’t have any contract offer in front of him when he was talking.

Luring Jay Wright away from a budding dynasty at Villanova to a massive rebuilding project in New York is likely a pipe dream. That doesn’t mean it isn’t something Knicks fans will harp on until the next coach officially signs on the dotted line.
