It may not be gold but it’s definitely silver. New York Yankees’ rookie Aaron Judge snags a Silver Slugger Award this evening.
If he hasn’t started clearing out his trophy case, he better start now. Announced this afternoon by MLB, Aaron Judge is the winner of the American League Silver Slugger Award for the right field position.
I mean, we all knew it. The New York Yankees knew it. Heck, even Aaron Judge probably knew it. Still, it’s his first major award and it’s still exciting.
We all know that Aaron Judge punished baseballs thrown right in his wheelhouse by slugging 52 home runs. However, he ranked first in the American League in runs scored (128), runs created (149), walks (127) and times on base (286) according to Baseball Reference.
While he also led the league in strikeouts with a whopping 208, he made up for it by mashing home runs, driving in runners on base and leading his team to the playoffs for the first time since a one-game stint in 2015.
Judge is marks the first Yankee since 2015 to win a Silver Slugger award for his position. The last was catcher and World Series champ Brian McCann.
We know how incredible it’s been to watch Aaron Judge. Now he has a piece of hardware to add to the collection that will likely be growing by the week.
