On this glorious Sunday morning, the New York Yankees are making a run for the playoffs while their Triple-A counterparts are already there.
It’s Player’s Weekend and it’s all fun and games for the New York Yankees, who defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-3 yesterday afternoon.
While the big brother Yankees won, their little brothers in Scranton were winning too…except this victory helped them clinch a playoff spot.

In defeating the Syracuse Skychiefs, the Triple-A squad earned a playoff berth. Last season, they ended up winning the Triple-A National Championship in impressive fashion.
Is it the year for a repeat? Well, with all the players on the squad who have been tested in the majors (Ji-Man Choi, Miguel Andujar and Tyler Wade) as well as impressive prospects who have yet to break into the majors (Jake Cave, Billy McKinney and Mark Payton), the Railriders must be unstoppable.
Enough about little brother. Let’s talk about the big guy down in High-A Tampa.
Besides Matt Holliday going on a tear in his last four games, the Yankees don’t seem to be ready to call him up, as reported by Jon Heyman in his latest article on FanRag Sports.
According to Heyman, it seems the Yankees will likely wait until the rosters expand on Sept. 1 to call up Holliday.
I guess that makes sense, especially if he’s still finding his stroke. However, we miss seeing veteran Matt Holliday in the lineup so we can only sit and wait until next week for his appearance back in the Bronx.
Now it’s time to win the series. The Yankees face the Mariners today in an afternoon matinee to help distance themselves in the Wild Card race.
