For the first time in over a year, New York Mets captain David Wright took the field as an active player Tuesday night.

Batting third and serving as the designated hitter for the High-A St. Lucie Mets, David Wright went hitless in four at-bats.

How he fared at the plate, however, is irrelevant. All that matters is how he felt physically. Wright claimed that his back felt good after the game during a lengthy interview with SportsNet New York.

Wright admitted during the interview that “there’s still quite a bit to go to get to where I want to be” and that “there are going to be some challenges ahead, but it was a good first step.”

After beginning his rehab assignment last night, Wright is continuing to prove his doubters wrong and is inching closer towards a return to the Mets lineup.

Another Mets Debut

Mets reliever Kevin McGowan made his first career MLB appearance Tuesday against Arizona and recorded his first career strikeout. The 25-year-old went 1.1 innings, allowed two hits, one run, and walked two.

Despite the shaky beginning to his big-league career, the righty was all smiles during his postgame interview.
