According to Newsday, the New York Knicks don’t appear interested in trading Kristaps Porzingis for Kyrie Irving.
The New York Knicks are doing everything they can to trade Carmelo Anthony. That makes sense for a young rebuilding team. As much sense as not trading their 22-year-old superstar, Kristaps Porzingis.According to Newsday, the Knicks “don’t appear interested” in dealing Porzingis, even if it’s for Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving.
It’s been widely reported that Irving wants out of Cleveland. He doesn’t want to play with LeBron James anymore. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Cavs want a young star in return for Irving. Apparently, Porzingis is their No. 1 option.
Phil Jackson was on board with trading the unicorn, but the new regime – led by Steve Mills and Scott Perry – are thinking differently on the idea.
Trading the best Knicks draft pick since Patrick Ewing in 1985 would be a colossal error; especially for a guy who isn’t willing to commit to the franchise long term. Porzingis is on record as saying he loves New York and wants to play his entire career there.
The Knicks should be focused on trying to repair their relationship with Porzingis. Not trying to trade him.
