The up-and-down journeyman in Rob Refsnyder has been acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays since his DFA by the New York Yankees.
As announced this afternoon, the New York Yankees completed a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. One of the major components of that trade was the up-and-down utility player Rob Refsnyder.
In exchange, the Yankees acquired 1B Ryan McBroom from their division rivals.
Refsnyder and 1B Ji-Man Choi were designated for assignment last week after the Yankees acquired 1B Garrett Cooper and Matt Holliday and Starlin Castro returned from their DL stints.
It was announced this morning that Choi was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton.
Refsnyder has been a part of the Yankees organization since 2012 and has gotten the major league call-up for three straight seasons, appearing in the Bronx each time for only a short period of time.
The Yankees didn’t really have a place for Refsnyder the past few season and ultimately shuffled him around the infield and outfield to fit their needs. That just wasn’t working anymore.
During his time on the Major League squad, Refsnyder posted a .241/.312/.332 line. Hopefully he’ll get a fair shot on the Blue Jays.
In return, the Yankees acquired 25-year-old McBroom, a first baseman from the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
McBroom is batting .243 on the season and will be likely assigned to the Double-A Trenton Thunder to further develop his skills.
