John Calipari reportedly reached out to the Knicks about filling the role of president left vacant after Phil Jackson’s firing.
The latest rumored candidate to be Phil Jackson’s replacement with the Knicks is Kentucky head coach John Calipari.According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Calipari reached out through intermediaries to express interest.
However, the feeling doesn’t appear to be mutual between the two parties.
Per Begley, the Knicks do not have an interest in Calipari at the moment. Begley also brings up the matter of Calipari presumably wanting to coach the team if he were to take over.
Cal was the head coach of the New Jersey Nets (1996-1999) for two seasons before being fired after a 3-17 start to his third season. He went 72-112 with the Nets and his most notable achievement is being hoodwinked out of drafting Kobe Bryant.
Calipari’s success has been entirely at the collegiate level. He has a record of 648-190. He’s been to six Final Fours and he won a National Championship in 2012.
This one is a long shot. Although, it seems like John Calipari turns down a new rumor every offseason. Whether it’s the NBA or not.
