The Seton Hall Pirates proved to be too much for the St. John’s Red Storm on Sunday, leaving the Johnnies at the receiving end of an 86-73 loss.

St. John’s entered Sunday’s matchup against the Seton Hall Pirates with a 9-11 record while Seton Hall came in with a 12-6 mark, but trailing the Johnnies in the Big East.
The boys from Queens came out of the gates very slow and did not play to their full potential and just looked lost. As the final buzzer of the second quarter sounded, the Johnnies found themselves trailing by a score of 46-26.
“I told them at halftime, they were soft and selfish,” St. John’s coach Chris Mullin said. “Why? I don’t know. I don’t know if they had a bad cup of coffee or some bad eggs.”
It was evident head coach Chris Mullin was pretty agitated with his team’s lackluster performance in the first half of the matchup.
St. John’s looked like they improved in the second half, but were still unable to come back from the 20 point deficit they put themselves in. One of the key components which contributed to the loss was the team’s inability to rebound over Seton Hall’s defenders.
Seton Hall out-rebounded St. John’s 45-33 and outscored them in the paint 46-30.
The Johnnies will certainly be looking to rebound from this division matchup when they play Seton Hall again on February 11, except this time it will take place at Madison Square Garden.
