After his latest trouble with the law, St. John’s lone 2017 recruit, Zach Brown, is officially released by the school.
As expected, the St. John’s men’s basketball squad has granted 2017 big man recruit Zach Brown his release from his National Letter of Intent.They made this decision following Brown’s latest trouble with the law. He was arrested for theft at Walgreens early on this year. Brown has also been arrested in the past for other theft issues, wiping out any hope of playing at St. John’s for the troubled big man.
This may be a big loss from a talent standpoint, especially since St. John’s needs frontcourt play and Brown could’ve certainly helped with his 7-foot-1 frame.
But this had to be done. Character is just as important, probably more important and a guy who went through multiple issues presents a lack of trust in how that person should carry themselves.
There’s no doubt that St. John’s is trying aggressively hard to bring their program back to respectability and they have some nice pieces right now. However, they need to make the program’s image clean too with good character who can take good care of himself off the court as well. Right now, Brown doesn’t seem like he’s ready to do so.
We wish Brown luck and hopefully, he can change his ways.
Meanwhile, it’s time for St. John’s to move on in search of others. It could take longer than expected but St. John’s did the right thing in establishing good character to the program with this decision.
