The New York Yankees confirmed on Tuesday that pitching prospect Alexander Figueredo was shot and killed in his native Venezuela on November 27.According to a published report in Venezuela, Figueredo was shot at a party in Guacara. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Figueredo missed the entire 2016 season due to being on the suspended/restricted list. The reason for the suspension is unknown. Last year he went 5-0 with a 1.89 ERA in 12 games for the Yankees team in the Dominican Summer League. He had 52 strikeouts, 22 walks, and allowed 55 hits in 57 innings.
The left-handed pitcher wasn’t a top prospect for the Yankees. The Yankees probably wouldn’t have brought him back for the 2017 season.
