A couple of St. John’s Red Storm returnees made some strides in the offseason to improve their game.

The St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball squad looks to improve upon their disappointing 2015-2016 season.

A couple of the players from last season have tried to make strides this offseason to improve their games.

A couple of sophomores, forward Kassoum Yakwe and guard Frederico Mussini shared what they did to get better.

Yakwe wanted to become a more versatile offensive player. He’s good at driving to the lane so because opponents know that, they give him more space on the outside. So, Yakwe has been looking to improve his outside shooting. He’s spent a lot of time working on that with head coach Chris Mullin. Why not, knowing that Mullin was one of the best shooters to ever play the game.

Mussini, meanwhile, has also been working to be a more versatile player as well. He’s been working mainly on his ball handle and shot. Although he hit 56 threes last season, he only shot 28 percent from inside and outside the arc.

Mussini has also been looking to get stronger physically , spending a lot of time in the weight room. He is now listed at 6-2 and 170 pounds, which is more than what he was listed at last season.

Mussini also had a chance to compete with his national team in Italy in the summer, facing some of the best players in Europe, which should only improve his performance even more.

Mullin was satisfied at the improvement his players have shown in the summer and mentioned that there was no offseason training and practice time last season.

This should only improve the players’ performance on the court and make St. John’s a better team this upcoming season.
