Noah Syndergaard, Yoenis Cespedes, Bartolo Colon and Zack Wheeler were all hit with injury scares in the past 48 hours and … they’re … all fine?
The impossible has happened. A truly remarkable feat. The 2016 New York Mets fortunes may have officially changed course today.
What could have been the ultimate doomsday, suddenly became a day to celebrate.
When a fanbase collectively celebrates the minor injuries of four key players, you know they have it rough.
But these Mets will live to see another day, especially Noah Syndergaard as seen in the Instagram post above. He decided to share this photo of Mini Thor and himself earlier once the positive health results came through.
Specifically, here are the updates on each:
Noah Syndergaard
The Mets ace tossed a quality start in today’s matchup against the Kansas City Royals, allowing 3 ER over 6.0 IP and 91 pitches.
Then, the flamethrower that was tossing high 90s all game long was pulled by Terry Collins after experience a “flare up” in his elbow, which prompted his manager to do this at his postgame presser:
Luckily, mortals have the ability to read Thor’s MRI, and the results say he has no structural damage, just elbow discomfort.
Miraculously, he won’t hit the DL, can resume normal baseball activities, and I can keep the elbow I promised I’d lend him.
Yoenis Cespedes
The slugger was pulled from Wednesday’s game and replaced by future-Las Vegas 51s outfielder Alejandro de Aza after injuring his wrist.
He, too, was sent to the doctor with Syndergaard — via horseback, probably — and returned with good news.
La Potencia was diagnosed with a mild wrist sprain, received a cortisone shot, and is listed as day-to-day.
Zack Wheeler
After learning he had a setback in his Tommy John recovery, which saw his first rehab appearance pushed back, the pitcher can breathe a sigh of relief.
