In NASCAR’s crowning event of the year, it was Denny Hamlin who captured the closest Daytona 500 finish of all-time.

It doesn’t get much closer than that. In fact, it’s never been closer.

Denny Hamlin’s victory today at the Daytona 500 was the closest in history. He just beat-out Martin Truex Jr. by 0.011 seconds:

It was actually Matt Kenseth who seemed to have victory in his grasp for most of the day. He led the previous 40-laps, up until that final lap.

Kenseth seemed in command of a single-file line. That was, until, Hamlin got a big push from Kevin Harvick and shot through the slimmest of gaps to take the lead.

Defending Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch, 2014 champion Harvick, and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.

The is Toyota’s very first victory in the Daytona 500.

The season continues in Atlanta next week.
