Nate Eovaldi didn’t pitch poorly, but couldn’t completely get the job done as the New York Yankees fall to the Athletics, 4-3.
With the score firmly knotted up at three apiece, the New York Yankees had their best player in the game.
Actually, he was on the mound in the form of closer and MLB All-Star Dellin Betances. Betances was pitching in the top of the 10th inning, looking to get his team to the bottom frame.
On this night it was not to be.
Oakland Athletics third-baseman Brett Lawrie launched a solo-shot into the night to give his team a 4-3 lead which eventually turned into a win at Yankee Stadium.
Meanwhile, it seems the cool thing to do these days is vote Brett Gardner into the All-Star Game. Everybody is doing it:
Even Tina Fey couldn’t resist the lure of The Stadium tonight. Perhaps she cast a vote for Gardy as well:
Blame the pitching, blame Girardi etc., all you want but when you are playing a last place team with the worst bull pen in baseball and you can't score a run in 5 innings, that is pathetic. These guys just don't get base hits, it's either a home run or nothing and more often than not, it's nothing. Just a hit here or there wins that game. The worse the team, the worse the Yankees play.
