Jesse Winker was tossed from his team’s 1-0 loss to the Mets on Thursday afternoon after arguing a close strike call. Home-plate umpire Marty Foster told the Cincinnati Reds slugger to get in the box. He didn’t and suffered the consequences.
Winker, 25, notoriously ended Wednesday night’s game with a wave to the left-field stands after recording the final out.
On Monday, Winker’s ninth-inning blast off Edwin Diaz propelled his team to a 5-4 victory.
To wrap it up on getaway day, the Citi Field fans enjoyed the last laugh. While Winker walked towards the dugout in disgust, Mets fandom enjoyed its own brand of waving goodbye.
The 1-0 victory on the strength of Noah Syndergaard‘s homer, 104-pitch complete-game shutout helps the Mets salvage the homestand at 5-5 as well as the Reds series at 2-2.
Next up will be a six-game road trip beginning with the Brewers in Milwaukee.
