The New York Knicks’ first-round pick, Kevin Knox, thinks championship glory can be achieved quite soon.

New York Knicks rookie forward Kevin Knox ambitiously stated the team could win an NBA championship within five years. Knox made the remarks in an interview with Mack Stern of Complex.

“I feel like that’s something we can definitely do in the next five years,” Knox said. “Especially with the direction we’re going. Free agency next year, the young guys we got and are developing each and every year. I feel like that’s something we’re gonna get in five years.”

That’s big talk for a rookie, especially one on a team that won just 29 games last season.

The Knicks may play in the league’s largest media market, but a winning team they certainly are not. New York hasn’t won a playoff series since the 2012-13 season, which is also the last time they made the playoffs at all.

Not only that, but read what Knox said.

A lot has to go right for the Knicks in the next five years for them to even be in the title conversation. What if guys like Kyrie Irving, Tobias Harris, and others choose to sign with other teams as free agents next year and in 2020? What if Knox himself is a bust?

Most important of all, what if star big man Kristaps Porzingis is a shell of himself once he returns from a torn ACL?

Don’t get me wrong. Between drafting Kevin Knox and hiring David Fizdale as head coach, the New York Knicks are definitely trending in the right direction.

But with the future uncertain and the Western Conference still strong, Knox may have jumped the gun here.
