Despite overwhelming reports suggesting Jimmy Butler is interested in the New York Knicks, a new report has that thought as “overstated.”
While the entire world is overwhelmed by the idea of Jimmy Butler craving New York City, one report suggests that the notion is totally and completely understated.
According to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today Sports, the entire idea of Butler to New York City is “overstated.” This is cited due to Butler’s desire to win immediately—representing the more important of the two factors.
“Hearing that Jimmy Butler’s interest in Knicks was overstated. His main goal is to win sooner rather than later.”
Last week, Adrian Wojnarowski got the Jimmy Butler ball rolling, reporting that he wanted out and his franchise would oblige his request. The Woj Bomb included the idea that the Los Angeles Clippers were Butler’s No. 1 team of choice.
Woj also listed the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets as possible destinations, mainly due to the probability of a long-term max-contract.
Now, Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Glen Taylor would like to trade Butler within the next “several days,” per Wojnarowski.
The idea of Butler coming to New York makes sense. Throwing a defensive monster in the same starting lineup as Kristaps Porzingis fits nicely, but, according to the Knicks, under no circumstances will they relent a first-round selection. Without that ammo at the organization’s fingertips, it’s unlikely Butler can be had.
The Nets make much more sense as a landing spot.
Either way, expect Jimmy Butler to land with somebody soon.
