The only way that Luis Severino could get any better in the eyes of New York Yankees fans is to win a Cy Young award. He’s making strides toward that goal already.
You can’t spell “Cy Young” without Luis Severino. Okay, you can but it really shouldn’t be possible.
This season for the New York Yankees, Severino was their bonafide ace, doing a complete 180 from his turn in the rotation in 2016.
This year, he’s one of the three finalists up for the American League Cy Young Award, running against division rival Chris Sale and Dallas Keuchel as announced today by MLB.
Severino won 14 games in his third season in the Bronx, throwing 193 innings and striking out 230 in the process. He also ended his successful campaign with a 2.89 ERA, just a tick below his two opponents.
While he had a rough outing in the Wild Card game. he proved to be a valuable asset throughout the playoffs. He also ended his regular season with more strikeouts than Keuchel.
Set to be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6:00 PM on the MLB Network, Severino will just have to wait a while before the big reveal.
So who will win? While Severino is the clear Cy Young Award winner for the Yankees, how about the rest of the Major League Baseball?
He’s going to win a Cy Young award at some point in his career so if not this year, then there’s always next year. Or the year after that. Or the entire dynasty the Yankees are building right this second.
