Michael Conforto Award Nominee
This year’s Hank Aaron Award will include a fan vote and a nominee from all 30 teams. The award recognizes the top offensive player in each league.
The Mets nominee this year is All-Star slugger Michael Conforto, who put together a breakout offensive campaign, mashing 27 home runs and driving in 68 runs in just 109 games.
With Yoenis Cespedes’ injury and Jay Bruce’s trade to the Indians, Conforto was the clear-cut top performer on offense for the 2017 Mets. Even with all his success this year, he will be a long shot when compared to players like Giancarlo Stanton, Paul Goldschmidt, and Joey Votto, who all put together monster statistical seasons.
His nomination does brings notoriety to his talents and support his claim to be the new face of the franchise. Conforto was one of eight players nominated that is under the age of 25.
Thomas Nido Rakes in the Arizona Fall League
Nido got off to a hot start in the AFL going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout. Nido’s progression as a hitter will make or break his future standing in the Mets catching ranks.
Continued success in the Fall League will be a good sign and help build momentum for a possible positional battle in spring training come 2018.
Mets Food Drive Offers Aid and Tickets
The Mets will be hosting a Food Drive on Thursday, October 12th to aid The River Fund NY organization. Donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mets’ Team Store.
Fans will want to donate at least 10 items, as that will earn them two tickets to an early season game in either April or May. This is an opportunity for Mets fans to give to a worthy cause while enjoying the benefits of Mets tickets.
Brad Ausmus a Top Managerial Target?
Brad Ausmus, who was recently let go by the Detroit Tigers after four years of service, has reportedly been contacted by the Mets regarding the open manager’s position.
Only 48, Ausmus might just be the young skipper with a fresh perspective that the organization needs. He is a former catcher and led the Tigers to a 90-win season in 2014, eventually losing to Baltimore in the ALDS.
Although the Tigers let Ausmus go after one of their worst seasons to date, injuries, an aging roster and payroll constraints were mostly to blame for the team’s failure.
