The New York Mets have begun the trade deadline with a bang by shipping relief pitcher Addison Reed off to the Boston Red Sox.
According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox have a deal in place to send Addison Reed out to Beantown.
This move should be the beginning of a series of moves that involve New York trading away all of their assets who will be free agents at the end of the season.
In exchange for Reed, the Mets will be receiving three prospects, Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista and Stephen Nogosek, who MLB Pipeline ranks as the Red Sox number 18, 23 and 28 prospects.
The right-handed hurler was solid for New York this season in the closer role once Jeurys Familia hit the DL, sporting a 2.57 ERA with 19 saves in 48 appearances.
Now that Reed is in Boston, newly acquired AJ Ramos will most likely be taking the spot as New York’s closer for the rest of the season.
