The New York Mets have reportedly acquired AJ Ramos from the Marlins in a deal that seemingly came out of nowhere.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the New York Mets have a deal in place to acquire right-handed relief pitcher AJ Ramos from the Miami Marlins.
The deal came to a big surprise of the baseball world, who seemingly thought the Mets would not be buying any pieces at this year’s trade deadline.
However, the move does make sense for New York, who now has a replacement for Addison Reed once they decide to trade him away and have an open closers role.
In exchange for Ramos, New York will be sending Merandy Gonzalez and Ricardo Cespedes to Miami, who MLB Pipeline both ranked as two of the Mets top 30 prospects.
In 40 games this season as the Marlins closer, Ramos is 2-4 with a 3.63 ERA and a 10.6 K/9, he is certainly not performing at the same level he has been in years past but he is still getting the job done.
