The New York Yankees will try to take the rubber match of their three-game set against the Blue Jays Wednesday afternoon, Chris Carter packs his bags (again) and Logan Morrison takes a swing at Gary Sanchez.

Good morning Yankees family! While most of us enjoyed a fun-filled day with family and friends on Independence Day, I’m willing to wager the day was not so great for one Chris Carter.

Recently back from having been designated for assignment in late June, Carter found himself DFA’d again after yesterday’s loss to Toronto. Since returning to action June 30, he went just 3-for-17 with one extra-base hit, three RBI, and six strikeouts.

But one man’s flop is another man’s fortune, and Carter’s most recent dismissal opens the door for yet another Baby Bomber debut: first baseman Ji-Man Choi.

Choi had a strong camp with the Yankees this spring, showcasing a quick bat and smooth fielding throughout Spring Training. But with Greg Bird, Tyler Austin and Carter ahead of him on the depth chart, Choi never really had a chance to break camp with the Yanks.

However, a season-ending injury to Bird, a lingering DL stint for Austin and an ineffective Carter have paved the way for Choi’s Yankee debut. The series of unfortunate events isn’t the only reason for Choi’s promotion, as he was batting .351 with five home runs and 15 RBI over his last ten games with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders.

Sour Fish

As most of you know by now, Gary Sanchez was extended and accepted an invitation to participate in the 2017 Home Run Derby during next week’s All-Star festivities in Miami.

What you may not know is that Sanchez’s selection isn’t sitting well with one division rival.

Morrison acknowledges that Sanchez is a good player and playing for a small-market team like Tampa Bay didn’t help his chances, even though he’s having a career year.

When asked his thoughts on the matter, Sanchez kept it classy and dignified, as we’ve come to expect from anyone wearing the pinstripes.

Before this was released, I was fully intent on rooting for Aaron Judge to take home the crown next week. But now, I really hope that Sanchez obliterates the competition if for nothing else, just to stick it to LoMo.
