Despite a solid start from Jacob deGrom, the New York Mets bullpen could not hold onto the lead late in the game, giving up back-to-back HRs.

The New York Mets fell to the Miami Marlins on Saturday night following a crushing collapse in the eighth inning by reliever Fernando Salas.
The evening was going as planned for the Mets, up until Jacob deGrom was pulled from the game by manager Terry Collins, as they were producing runs and the righty was preventing Miami from doing the same.
The Amazin’s benefited early offensively from a Neil Walker RBI double, as well as an RBI triple by Curtis Granderson. Asdrubal Cabrera also contributed with a home run, but in the end, it turned out to be not enough.
After allowing early back-to-back home runs to first baseman Justin Bour and left fielder Marcell Ozuna in the bottom of the second, deGrom simply coasted, tying a career high with 13 strikeouts.
Due to his high pitch count, Collins didn’t allow the deGrominator to pitch into the eighth, when center fielder Christian Yelich and right fielder Giancarlo Stanton went back-to-back again, this time on Salas to give Miami a 5-4 lead.
The bullpen was one of the main perceived issues heading into the season for the Mets, and tonight’s occurrence only made this question mark bolder.

On Sunday afternoon, the Mets will wrap up their series against the Miami Marlins with the “Dark Knight” Matt Harvey on the mound for the boys from Queens.
Harvey will likely be on a short leash in this start, considering he tweaked his hamstring in his last outing against Philadelphia, so Collins will be keeping close tabs on him.
