Derrick Lewis slept Travis Browne then shouted out Ronda Rousey, Browne’s girlfriend. What will he do for an encore? Here are a few suggestions.

Derrick Lewis looked phenomenal against Travis Browne, scoring a vicious knockout in the second round. The Black Beast stepped up against serious competition and deserves a spot in the conversation for a title shot.

After trashing Browne and courting Ronda Rousey post-fight, Lewis’ unpredictability has instantly become must-see TV, too.

“I just knew I had a bigger heart than him,” Lewis said. “He calls himself a man, but he likes to put his hands on women, so, forget that guy. I have much more heart than he has. Where’s Ronda Rousey’s fine ass at?”

What’s next for Lewis after his impressive showing in Halifax? With heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic scheduled to fight Junior Dos Santos at UFC 211 on May 13, he has a few options.

CAIN VELASQUEZ

This fight makes too much sense for Lewis. Velasquez has a long injury history, but when healthy he’s one of the scariest men on the planet. He’s no longer in his prime but he is still a credible name.

Velasquez has only fought four times since capturing the heavyweight title at UFC 155, but injuries have slowed him down over the years. The former champion has not fought since UFC 200, but his last match ended in a victory against none other than Travis Browne.

A fight between Lewis and Velasquez would serve as a title eliminator, with the winner poised to fight the winner of Miocic-Dos Santos. Velasquez-Lewis could easily serve as the main card on a PPV, or headline any televised UFC event.

FRANCIS NGANNOU

This is a fight that would be a ton of fun to watch. Ngannou is the most exciting prospect in the heavyweight division today and pitting him against Lewis would give the winner a strong claim to a shot at the heavyweight championship.

Ngannou’s last three fights combined lasted less than 10 minutes – the man has enough power to stop a moving train dead in its tracks. Andrei Arlovski, one of the best heavyweights of all time, lasted less than four minutes against The Predator.

While this fight would stall one fighter’s climb to the top, it would propel the victor to new heights and give fans a scrap to remember.

BEN ROTHWELL

Ben Rothwell is another intriguing option for Lewis. Rothwell, currently ranked fifth in the heavyweight division, would be another step up in competition for The Black Beast.

Rothwell is on the shelf until April, following knee surgery, and has requested Fabricio Werdum upon his return, but Lewis would be too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Rothwell dropped his last fight to Junior Dos Santos via unaminous decision, but remains one of the top heavyweights in the world. Lewis would be seriously tested by Rothwell, who could be an option if all else falls through.

WAIT FOR THE RESULT OF UFC 211

Lewis, previously ranked eighth in the heavyweight division, would have to jump many deserving guys to fight for the title. Then again, there are not many names in the sport hotter than Lewis, especially in the heavyweight division.

He has quickly become a fan favorite, for his fighting style and obviously the colorful way in which he articulates himself.

Despite his popularity, however, Lewis should take one more fight in the interim. Velasquez makes the most sense here and should be booked for UFC 213 in Las Vegas.
