In absolutely devastating news, the baseball world has lost both Yordano Ventura and Andy Marte on Sunday in car accidents that tragically killed them both.

The Kansas City Royals have confirmed that right-handed pitcher Yordano Ventura has indeed passed away in a tragic car accident which took place in his homeland of the Dominican Republic.

A colonel in the Dominican Republic police informed Enrique Rojas of ESPN that the accident occurred in the town of Juan Adrian.

In four seasons in the major leagues, Ventura went 38-31 with a 3.89 ERA in 93 starts with a 7.7 K/9. He was also the definition of consistency, he has not pitched in less than 28 starts in his past three years in the majors.

The right-hander helped the Royals beat the New York Mets in the 2015 World Series and proved to be a vital piece to leading the team to the grandest stage of them all two years in a row.

Another member of the baseball world who was lost on Sunday was former major league infielder Andy Marte, who was also killed in a car crash.

Marte was apparently playing winter ball for winter league baseball for Las Aguilas Cibaenas.

The infielder spent seven seasons in the major leagues split between the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

These two athletes will certainly be missed among their peers and the baseball world and our thoughts and prayers go out to their friends and family.
