Former New York Mets All-Star infielder Edgardo Alfonzo was announced as the Brooklyn Cyclones new manager Thursday.
The New York Mets all-time leader in postseason hits is now lending his knowledge to the future of the organization.As announced Thursday on the team’s official Twitter account, Edgardo Alfonzo was named the manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets’ Single-A minor league affiliate.
Alfonzo hooked on with the Brooklyn Cyclones as an infield coach in 2014, a position he has held until yesterday’s promotion.
Edgardo Alfonzo was an integral part of the 2000 Mets World Series team. His clutch hitting in the playoffs earned him a special place in the hearts of fans everywhere.
Alfonzo was the starting second baseman during the 1999-2001 run that featured arguably the best defensive infield of all-time along with John Olerud, Robin Ventura and Rey Ordonez.

After experiencing much success in his early Mets career, injuries essentially derailed his future. After leaving the franchise, Alfonzo never really found his old wave, playing in stints with the San Francisco Giants, LA Angels and Toronto Blue Jays.
‘Fonzie’ – as he was known by fans – has been a supporter of the Mets even after his retirement.
