Former New York Knicks star Stephon Marbury expressed during an interview with ESPN how his time in New York was ‘tough’.
In an interview with ESPN’s “The Undefeated”, Stephon Marbury reflected on his time playing with the New York Knicks as well as his success moving to China and becoming a star there.
“So much turmoil was going on,” Marbury said. “[Then Knicks head coach] Mike D’Antoni had chose to bring in Chris Duhon and he said that he was going in another direction. I was told that I was going to have an opportunity to play. I worked extremely hard throughout that time and the first game that we were playing, I was sitting on the bench.”
It was very evident from his time in New York that Marbury struggled with receiving the playing time he felt like he deserved from head coach Mike D’Antoni.
Due to never receiving any playing time, Marbury and the Knicks organization eventually agreed to a buyout of his contract, when he then wound up finishing off his career playing in China.
