With the hot stove heating up, the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are discussing a trade involving Jay Bruce.

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN, the Toronto Blue Jays have discussed a trade with the New York Mets involving left-handed slugger Jay Bruce.

Toronto could be looking to take on a power bat just in case they are unable to resign free agents, Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista. Sure, the production they would be getting from Bruce would not be equivalent to those two but he could certainly join Kendrys Morales in an attempt to recreate the power.

The asking price on Bruce should not be that high considering he had a brutal second half of the season with the Mets where he slashed .219/.294/.391 with only eight home runs and 19 RBIs.

The Mets and Blue Jays are certainly familiar with each other when it comes to trading, which included the deal that sent Noah Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud to New York for R.A. Dickey.

It will certainly be a key storyline for the Mets throughout the offseason to see what they decide to do with three-time all-star Jay Bruce.

Stay tuned to ESNY this offseason for all updates for all things regarding MLB free agency.
