What does a ball club do for a fallen teammate in a slump? In the Cleveland Indians case with Yan Gomes, a “sacrificial ceremony.”

Listen, even if you’ve never been a part of a baseball clubhouse, you probably understand who these guys are.

They’re absolute weirdos.

Not weirdos in the sense of the real definition, but weirdos when things aren’t going according to plan. The slightest slump or issue spurs on a ritual or superstition to break out of it. Teammates may or may not know.

If you’ve seen classics such as Major League or Bull Durham, you understand a little more.

In the recent case of the Cleveland Indians and Yan Gomes, a “sacrificial ceremony” was deemed necessary. Thanks to the catcher’s pathetic .163 average at the plate, teammates Jason Kipnis, Mike Napoli, Lonnie Chisenhall and Chris Gimenez felt it necessary to put this together.

Take a look at the video footage:

Oh yeah, weirdos.

It’ll now be important to monitor what Gomes does in the coming days and weeks.
